Like many people I've only kept in touch with a few of my "generation" - I'm a lousy letter writer (though not as bad as Jowers...). Email is my saviour though, I can generally manage a couple of lines pretty quickly and I would love to hear from any one who was around when I was at KC. As far as my biog goes it's been an interesting 25 years(to me at least). I'm now on my second family with total of four children. I'm also on my second business - I run a couple of software companies and am still having fun. (Neil_Patterson@msn.com)Richard Smith KC'72-'82 (24/12/00)
Dragged kicking and screaming out of early retirement, I have taken up a new role as the Sales & Marketing Manager for Atraxis in the Asia Pacific Region, based once again in Hong Kong. Specialising in IT solutions for the Transport Industry, my area of responsibility lies primarily with Cargo and Freight Logistics. (At least for 2001) Atraxis is an independant subsiduary of the SAir Group, whose other divisions include Swissair, Sabena, Cargolux. I still maintain a very active interest in SCUBA Diving and if any OCC Members fancy getting wet in Hong Kong, they should get in touch.Kind regards, Rick Smith (ricsmith@atraxis.com)

I was 6 months from qualifying as a solicitor, but a marriage proposal and a lucrative job offer for my husband-to-be saw me heading to Indonesia for three years. I married Paul Laws, a St.Edmunds lad (nickname Bullet) in 1995, having met in London in 1988. I left Indonesia shortly before it plunged into turmoil. My Husband returned 2 months later for the birth of our first boy, Oliver, in March 1998. My Husband was unable to return to Indonesia because of the political problems and we found ourselves moving to Holland almost immediately after the birth of Oliver. We remained there for one year before being posted to Texas. Shortly after I gave birth to Samuel, two days before the millenium, and no, I was not 'trying' for a millenium baby! Both of my sons were born with 6 perfect toes on each foot! I have many interests, but not enough time to pursue them. They include golf, piano, aerobics, and investing(although not at the moment!). I have several projects in the pipeline, and when my two sons allow me, I will set up my own business next year designing web sites! (that is if I am not either pregnant or moving !) I am in touch with Heather Figgis and Sam Drury. (laws@dellnet.com)Pat Stevens KC'54-'56 (22/12/00)
I came home to the US, graduated at West Point in 1963, spent 33 years in the Army Engineers, including assignments in Vietnam, Thailand, Oman, Saudia Arabia and Australia, and retired in 1996. Now the Executive Director of the Society of American Military Engineers. (stevensp@erols.com)Rob Wyatt KC'72-'79 (20/12/00)
After leaving KC as soon as my A-levels were done I examined several 'career' options, including barman and shelf stocker, before I discovered that my ability to count to 16 meant I was able to write computer programs. I worked for the HBS in Halifax for several years where I met and married Jean, before moving to Florida to work for Xerox. My love of singing returned, and I even did some work for Disney. My claim to fame is singing the US National Anthem at an Orlando Magic NBA game! Several years, 2 children and 3 cats later, I still work for Xerox (just) at Rochester, NY, the snow shovel capital of the world. I recently finished a novel which I am shamelessly hawking around UK publishers. I would love to hear from other KCers, and hope to visit the UK next summer.(robster@rochester.rr.com)Ivan Cheung KC'82-'89 (12/12/00)
Hi Guys, anyone remember me??Can someone let me know the whereabouts of Fiona Lewis, Michael Hall or Nial Murphy? (ivanc@dxq.com.hk)
Anna White KC'89-'96 (8/12/00)
Hello everyone,It's time to touch base again - the last few years seem to have flown by. I've now graduated once from Bristol (MSci Physics with Astrophysics) but have let myself in for more poverty by opting to do a PhD here - though this time it's a bit more down to Earth - in seismology.
Have done far too many things to tell you them now: let's just say I'm still playing my viola and I'm still with Nathan (for those who know who he is) and I've still got far too many talented brothers and sisters!
It would be great to hear from anyone who remembers me. See you around, Anna. (anna@gly.bris.ac.uk)Julia Johnson KC'89-'93 (28/11/00)
This is very impressive - great idea to see what everyone is up to these days!I have been working for Nortel Networks (global telecoms company) in North London since I graduated from Bath Uni in 1996. We have plenty of engineering jobs available here at Nortel Networks .....
Unfortunately I have lost contact with everyone from school, so it would be great to hear from anyone who remembers me. My sister Natalie, and cousins Melissa and Claudia Johnson all studied at KC too, so if anyone would like to contact them let me know. (juliaj@nortelnetworks.com)Liz Pearson KC'83-'90 (27/11/00)
Spent 5 years in Cambridge trying to specialise in basketball and squash (thanks to Mr Opie's coaching) with architecture, netball and hockey on the side. Now living in North London with my journalist partner and working as an architect. Still in contact with Marissa Parry who is a successful city lawyer. Would be great to hear from our contempories and meet up in London to consume some alcohol! (pearson.marinko@virgin.net)Patrick Harper KC'77-'84 (17/11/00)
Living in Wales for past 12 years and now working in the National Assembly for Wales. Would be interested to hear from anyone who was at Kent College from 1977 to 1984. (patrick.harper@wales.gsi.gov.uk)Gavin Lawrie KC'72-'79 (15/11/00)
Found out about this site when I met Danny Wright at Chris Wright's funeral this week. How Danny knew of it I am not sure...Chris Wright's funeral was a very thoughtful and moving event, graced with perfect weather: crisp with a beautiful sunset. I am sure Chris would have loved it. Also amazed by the number of people who turned out - Chris was a very special person, and it was only fit that many of those who knew him made the effort to see him off.
Since leaving I have done many things, but along the way found time to graduate in engineering from London University, and some time later to get an MBA from London Business School. Since LBS have worked as a management consultant for two US consultancies and for what is now PWC. Currently I am MD of 2GC Active Management - another consultancy, specialising in "strategic control and performance measurement". Well it pays the mortgage!
Sally Green and I got married in 1985, and we have three nippers - Joseph (5), Christopher (3) and Oliver (1.5).
Come into contact with few from KC - Graham Byers was Best Man at our wedding and is now a Vet in Somerset. Bumped into Ian Mackintosh at C&L. And got to know Johnathan Chocqueel-Mangan when we both worked together at one of the US consultancy firms. JCM is now working for yet another firm, this time in London, married with one nipper. Briefly was aware that Martin Stacey was a lecturer at Open University, but think he has moved on.
Also (as now he is a relation!) keep in touch with Paul Green - until recently a major wheel in the Cabinet Office and MAFF, now doing an MBA in Brussels - and by association Nick Stewart (running design company in Gravesend).
I'd be intrigued to find out more about what has happened to others - you can reach me on Gavin.Lawrie@2gc.co.uk if you care to email me.

Thought it was about time that I updated you on what I've been up to - well if any OC's are taking their pony mad sons or daughters to the Olypia Show Jumping Championships in London just before Christmas, they should look out for the Wizard of Oz in the British Riding Clubs Quadrille of the Year being held on Sat 16th Dec in the morning. I am part of Faversham & District RC's team anf take the role of Dorothy !!More importantly (or is it ?) I am in the third and final year of my primary teaching degree at Christ Church Canterbury University College. Jock Sutherland would be amazed to hear the I am taking Maths as a specialism ( yes I did learn something after all) along with Geography and PE
Well at least all the work keeps me busy my new email address is nicola@nbaturner.freeserve.co.uk or until July 2001 nbt1@cant.ac.ukCheers, Nicky

Still in touch with many school friends: Lucy Plaxton, Sarah Harlow, Jessica Woodward, Jane Thomson, Faye Holloway (now all called different things because they're all married). Sister Nicky now lives in Boston (USA). She's also in touch with her year people but I'll let her go into that.Giles Surman KC'80-'85 (28/10/00)
Dear All, Here in HK there are a some 6-7 OC's that I am in touch with from my era. We meet from time to time not for specific OC events but for other events, e.g. good excuse for a drink together. Few names, Charles Chan and Simon Chan (not related) both from Guilford House (like myself), Danny Hui from Milton and a number of others.Chris Wright KC'68-'84
The club was saddened to learn of the death of Chris Wright on Saturday 4th November.
Chris's funeral is on Monday 13th November at Adisham Parish Church. His family have requested family flowers only, donations to UNICEF.Some memories of Chris Wright:
Hearing any member of staff by their full name has always seemed a little strange. Chris Wright wasn't Chris Wright to us; he was 'Sir' and he was occasionally Mr Wright. Most of the time, though, he was 'Smoothie'.I assume the sobriquet had more to do with his hairstyle than anything else, but Chris Wright was one of those extraordinary members of staff at KC, who seemed able to match the rigours of heading his department, running his house and maintaining his own academic interest in local history with consummate ease. He WAS a bit of a smoothie, he was never in a rush, he was always considered and considerate.
His history lessons always seemed to start in the same way. A few minutes of hustle and bustle as we took our time settling in for a double period; then, wallop, he would be off, lunging into a battle scene, with props including the classroom bin and the teachers desk.
It's funny what springs to mind at times like this. I can picture him, sitting on a desktop at the front of the class, legs crossed, looking up towards the ceiling, his hands clasped around his knees, and with his eyes half-shut. He is gently slapping the back of one hand into the palm of the other. The word springing from his lips is 'Milan'. Because, whenever he pronounced a word ending in 'n', his tongue used to emerge between his lips. Jon Virgo had it to a tee!
As a housemaster he was kind, always available, but rarely too visible. Quite a feat for any housemaster. He followed the House fortunes in all sports, drama and other activities with enthusiasm - but never fanaticism.
I am sure I am in a vast majority of thousands of pupils who have only warm memories of Smoothie.
Helen, my thoughts are with you.

I was a pupil at Kent College from 1954-1958 leaving at the end of the first year sixth. School nickname "Oli". I have had a varied career in the UK and overseas, originally in Construction. The last 19 years I have been in a business partnership from which I retired in 1999. I have been married for 34 years and have two children. I have lived overseas since 1964 and in New Zealand since 1968. I have visited the UK several times in the past 10 years and have looked in on Kent College a couple of times. Girls in my day could not be looked at let alone be an integral part of the school. That amused my daughter when I showed her around. Some pupils that I was particularly friendly with were John Lane, PJP Rodwell, CM Ross, Paul Gibson. I would be interested in making contact with them and any others who may remember a chap with big ears and a receeding hairline (Since receeded completely!!) who played front row for the second fifteen. Received a letter today from Keith Hodgkin and he directed me to the site to update my details. I'm currently Senior Brand Manager at Carter-Wallace in Folkestone, marketing such well known brands as Arrid, Pearl drops, Slazenger toiletries and Trojan condoms (although the latter not in the UK). Focus groups on condom use in Poland is something KC doesn't prepare you for. I've been with Carter-Wallace since 94 when I joined as marketing assistant. On a personal front I got married in 98, Keith Hodgkin was best man and received the best birthday present ever this year when my wife gave birth to our first son; spookily my mother informed me that there is only a difference of 2 minutes between my bith time and my son's. I am commuting weekly to Rotterdam in Holland at present for my work as business systems consultant for Shell. My main pastime outside work is running - I am training better than at any time since I restarted 10 years ago. (p.kennedy@lineone.net)Iain McIntosh KC'74-'81
When I left university I assumed that after a year or so I'd like to work in a small/medium sized company. 14 years on, after a career of advising others at Coopers & Lybrand Corporate Finance and then McKinsey, I moved last year to KBC Advanced Technologies plc as Finance Director. KBC, a techMark listed company, has geat chemical engineering consultants and software that serves the oil industry worldwide. The job change also allowed Annie & I to move and our 3 children (8, 4 and 1) away from Greenwich in 'Dome year'. So it's now a 25 minute walk to work through darkest Surrey suburbia. Having read with interest the submissions posted here I felt I should add a few lines of my own. It has been many years now since I have had contact with KC or any contemporaries and much water has passed under the bridge. So, to summise..I gained a 2.1 in Geography from Bedford College London in 1985. This probably was the last time I saw any OCs.. Oliver Sandon, Peter Moffat and Simon Robinson to recall a few. Since that time I have worked for Japanese investment bank Nomura International initially in Tokyo and since 1987 in London . I run the international equities new issue syndication desk which.......never mind ......I've collected a few air miles over the years!! Married Victoria (not Liz Madell) in 1989, 3 children..Hugh 8, Madeleine 6 and George 4 Living in North Buckinghamshire. One of the "first" girls at KC and amazingly got to be a school prefect! I've now been employed with BT for 18 years (National Contract Receipting Centre Manager - don't ask!!), married for 16 years to Mark (very Dodgy chap with own flooring business!) and have two daughters (Jemila - 12 and Raisa - 11). I still see Elaine Cooper nee Whitbread (first headgirl), Sarah Symons nee Fowler, Su Lee nee Pocock and get updates occasionally from Loretta Bond nee Northmore, Catriona (married to James) Clifton nee Barry, and from Raisa's friend about Alex Shenton as she happens to be Natasha's aunt (it's a small world!). I would also like to know what the other "first" girls are up to - in particular Alison Gunn and Carol Anne Procter (DC - this is easy - read Richard's entry below!!) who I've lost contact with. Would also like to catch up with other friends:- Darryl White, Marc Adams, Mark Steadman, Dave Wilkinson, Karim Kurmaly... oh the memories!!!!! (caroline.dodge@talk21.com)Richard Huggins KC'77-'79
Hello to all who know and remember me. Married Carol-Anne Procter ("Miss Herne Bay") eventually, (I think we were one of the first all KC marriages). Two kids: Katharine 7 and Maria 5. Carol's a Chartered Surveyor for KCC, and I'm a project manager for a software house. Contacts are few: Nick Land is a Director of the Ordnance Survey in Southampton, living in sin with a lovely German lady called Christina. Chris Biggs recently got married to Dawn, and lives in Bath/Bristol area. Alex Shenton (now Morton) lives in South Gloucestershire, and has 2 boys. (richardhuggins@hotmail.com)David Eades KC'74-'81
I moved out to Belfast for the BBC last year, after a few years travelling around Europe at the licence fee payer's expense. Married Felicity ten years ago, and have two boys, Oliver (8) and Robert (6). My track record for keeping in touch with KC and friends has been pretty pathetic overall. I've had to rely on the likes of Anne Charlesworth-now-Waters to keep me informed. (Happy first wedding anniversary, by the way!) But as with all roads to hell, I am now full of good intentions about meeting up with a few old boys/girls. Thanks to Duncan for setting up this site....more responses here than I ever saw in the magazine! My only complaint concerns the libellous remarks by Toby Broom about my full head of hair. (David.Eades@bbc.co.uk)Matt Clapson KC'82-'86
It would be great to hear from any of the old crowd of the early/mid eighties, especially my partners in crime of Milton House (sad to hear that it is no more). I am currently working in the wonderful world of advertising and direct marketing for a tour operator and was married last October on Burgh Island, Devon. Get in touch and let me know what you are up to at mattkerin@cs.com Kent College Speech Day Saturday 8th July 2000 I visited KC this last weekend for speech day. I suspect that the format of the event has changed very little over the years, although I got the impression that the number of parents present was not as great as in my time at KC. The final prizes of the day were the Headmaster's and I managed to get a copy of Edward Halse's introduction to each of the prize winners. Some amazing achievements:Daniel Grayson
Daniel Grayson has been consistently a very able academic. I am sure that he will outwit even the toughest GCSE examiner this summer. But, he is not a prize-winner for his performance in the classroom. He has played as a hockey goalkeeper for six years and has reached a very high standard. Indeed, he has gained six international caps for England at U16 level. All good teams need inspirational leaders, but it is difficult to be a leader when you play in goal. Daniel Grayson broke the mould this year; he captained England, even though he was in goal and was surrounded by padding and a helmet and sported a mouth guard. The fact that England won the home countries tournament says much about Daniels leadership qualities; and I know his teachers would agree it also says much for his very loud voice!
Matthew Brown
Three years ago, this boy as an 11 year old
started writing his own music. He plays the violin to a very high standard and the oboe
very well. He is one of our newest music scholars. He has told me recently, "These
days, I compose in baroque style, because it is the sort of music I prefer listening
to." He composes by hearing in his mind the whole orchestra playing the piece. He
then writes down the music for all the parts of the orchestra using computer software.
Earlier this year, we had the great pleasure of listening to the world premier of one of
Matthew Browns compositions. Everyone present was spellbound. His teachers said that
the piece would have gained an A at A level. Matthew finds composing easy. Little wonder
as he can also juggle six balls at a time.
Matthew Brown is a deserving winner of a Head Masters prize.
Ed Butcher
Captain of the First XI hockey, he has scored over 90 goals for the team. He has played for Kent at hockey since he was 12. He represented the South of England at U13, U14, U15 and U16. Prevented by injury, he was unable to play at U16, but this year Edward Butcher was selected as a regular first team choice for England at U18 level. For Canterbury, Edward has been the youngest person playing in the National League, which represents the highest level of hockey on this country. Perhaps, even more importantly than all of that is the fact that Edward has turned down the privilege of playing for his country today, to be present at this Speech Day and no doubt the Ball tonight. Edward Butcher is another very deserving winner.
Bransilav Trajkovski
In 1997, he was awarded a scholarship to study at KC. He has been studying Business Studies, Mathematics, German, Physics and Psychology and has also managed to occupy himself fully on Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions, German Exchanges, as Head of House and as a VIP at the millennium dome.
Supported generously by the Friends, he joined the Macedonian section of Deutsche Welle Radio (the German equivalent of the BBC world service), since when he has been appointed (part time) as their British Correspondent for political, economic, sports and cultural affairs. That is nothing new to KC pupils, at the moment we have the BBC Northern Ireland Correspondent, David Eades, and the ITV Sports correspondent, Ben Scotchbrook. But to get up each morning at 6.00am to listen to the news, read the newspapers in English and then make phone calls to the radio station before the school day starts, is quite impressive. His reports have been broadcast by mobile phone from KC to Macedonia, Germany, Australia and the States. He has produced a section on Macedonia which is featured in the dome; he has reported on the World Piano Competition and even interviewed a NATO spy during the Kosovo crisis. Other reports have featured anything from the Mayor of London, to Genetics, Tysons fight against Francis or to the horrific scenes of the dead bodies at Dover.
He has won a scholarship to Cambridge which pays for his flights to and from Macedonia, accommodation, tuition and living expenses. He has not yet convinced them to buy him a Mercedes. Apart from all of that, he is such a very pleasant, honest and friendly young man.
If you are not yet convinced that this is an extraordinary young man, let me illustrate something further. Some weeks ago, he came to see me and in all sincerity and with total integrity. He said, "Headmaster, I wish to apologise for letting you down. I have disgraced my family, myself and the good name of this school." After the initial panic, I suggested that it could not possibly be so bad. He continued with his story; he had received some module results: an A in Maths, and A in German but only a B/C in another.
Ladies and Gentleman, KCs very own citizen of the world, Branislav Trajkovski.
Karen Kinzett and Simon Unter
You have heard that some staff have 25 or more years experience at Kent College. They have seen prefects and head boys and girls come and go. They tell me that this year, Karen Kinzett and Simon Unter have been as good as any that have come before them. Last August, I sent them both on a Head Prefects course in Nottingham. Little did I know that they would return full of energy, ideas and with even more skills and talents. They organised meetings, took charge of this years induction of new prefects and even suggested ways to support the head master. This year, I have been delighted to work closely with Karen and Simon. They have impressed in all areas, and I am privileged to award them the final Head Master Prizes.
TRURO Reunion 1st July 2000 a report by Paul Cox, OCC President
More than 30 'old' school friends were reunited on Saturday 1st July 2000, many of whom had not met during the last 55 years. It was a nostalgic experience, never to be forgotten and hoped even to be repeated by some very determined men who had been brought together in the dark days of 1940 at Truro School.
We came together as the result of an idea suggested by our Headmaster, Edward Halse, some considerable sifting and message writing by the OCC Committee over six months and a formal invitation from the Management of Truro School. One of our number, Neil Bliss travelled from Ottawa complete with a portfolio of photos and manuscripts of that era for the benefit of the Archives.
We were welcomed, shown round the school by enthusiastic -and interested - senior students, bussed to see former dormitory accommodation in the town, lunched, then taken for a three hour boat trip down to Falmouth and back - attended by un unusual school of 15ft Basking Sharks. We made ourselves presentable, then spent a delightful evening with our Ladies at a Reunion Dinner in the Oak Panelled School Dining Room. The food and wine were excellent. Three speeches followed, the first by Headmaster Guy Dodd, followed by the reminiscences of Peter Pelmear (Truro 1936-45) and finally John Dixon (Kent College 1939-44). John delighted us all with his 'Jethro' comic turn and then we made a presentation of a framed print of K.C., duly signed by all the O.C.'s attending.
On Sunday morning we attended a Service in the School's fine Chapel supported by very many local Methodists from Truro when thanks were given for those years of the Forties and this opportunity for renewed Fellowship.
We all started our long journeys homeward in great spirits and considerable determination to again renew old acquaintances before too long.

Unexciting news! Eight years in the ministry until my wife died. A year living off the state. Then twenty years as a schoolteacher, which I love. Four children - two adopted and two not; all grown up now. It would be so nice to hear from one or two old friends. When I found your website I searched eagerly but was disappointed; hardly anyone from my time and no-one from my year. Does anyone else remember Freddie Fowler (died c.1961) drawing intricate pictures of historical scenes on the board and naming the characters after members of the class? Or coughing over his pipe while handing out pocket money on Saturday lunchtimes? Oh dear, it must be my age.How do I join this club? Better late than never. Any reduction for the over-fifties?
Best wishes. Richard Sewell. (richard@8harold.freeserve.co.uk)Duncan Castle KC'77-'84
Having seen the last entry of my news online I thought it was time for an update. Moved on from working in Coca-Cola's "Middle East & North Africa" division in February 2000, as the frantic overseas travel was taking it's toll - combined with a forthcoming birth in the family (the first for my wife Claire and I since our wedding in 1997) which is due in August 2000.Living in Pinner, Middlesex, I'm now working as the Marketing Manager for PartyLite, a UK-based subsidiary of a major US-owned direct selling company. A slight change in marketing direction - candles in place of Coke - but much more enjoyable - and the office is only 2 miles from home which is a bonus! No direct news of other OC's - though I do keep in contact with others from the '77-'84 era (Martin Cox, Duncan Cooper, Giles Hadman, Francis Anderson in particular).
Keep up the great work on the website! (duncancastle@hotmail.com)Roger Peters KC'63-'68

By strange quirk of fate, I was the sound recordist on a programmme called "Freakout", presented by K.C. old boy Matthew Fraser. He's very well, and you can see him on that particular programme and a forthcoming drama on Channel 4. That's all, really. (markfoundonsound@aol.com)Jason March KC'76-'83
Bumped into this site whilst researching schools for my daughter! It's good to see that the school is still thriving and obviously now has a little more computing power than in my time (VH 73-76 & KC 76-83).Following university I migrated to the South Coast (Shoreham by Sea) and have stayed in this area (with my wife, Gwyn and children Imogen(5) & Jack(2)) ever since.
I currently manage the noise and vibration department of Ricardo Consulting Engineers (www.ricardo.com), spending my spare time with my family and managing the occasional round of golf.
It was good to see so many names here, which I could just about still put faces to. I'll keep checking back from time to time.... (jason.march@cwcom.net)Karim Rahman KC'86-'90

Hi! I was at KC from 1960-1970, if you include Vernon Holme. Now I am past 40 I return more often, funny that. But OC's from my era are a bit thin on the ground. Thin on top probably. I am in touch with a few old chums, including Henry Feilden who hasn't missed a single Winter Reunion. Sad or what? But I'd love to hear from contemporaries, particularly Rob Dransfield, Mark Powling, Keith Piggott or Steve Wilcock. Are you out there? Incidentally, this web site is a brilliant innovation. Congrats to Duncan Cooper. (I have told him this to his face, by the way). (Thanks! - DC)Chris Myers (chris.myers@virgin.net)

First visit back to Kent College this week in 19 years prompted this entry & copious memories (good outweighing bad). Married to Lisa and thereby into a large animal population. I was pleased to come across the KC site while "playing around" on the net & to come across news on several names from the past. An brief update on my activities since leaving in 1974 - I went on to get a veterinary degree (U of Liverpool) in spite of the predictions of my various teachers of the time (the names Henn & Carter come to mind!) I'd actually forgotten this, remembering myself as a brilliant student, but until I recently came across some old reports which my 4 children seized with determination & who'll not now let me forget my real status.Thereafter, took a post grad degree in Fish Disease, moved on to vet practice in Somerset, before making the move overseas, to Zambia, then Kenya and now France where I work for Merial, an animal health company as Director of Global Technical Services for their vaccine business.

Greetings KC Alumni - I was at KC through the 4th form before returning stateside - and am looking to reconnect with my KC friends. Brief update: I've managed to collect a BS in Finance, a Masters (honors) in Comparitive Economics (back when I held a few socialist ideals), and last year, an MBA from UCLA. I worked for a while as a corporate Consultant in New York City before deciding to get in on the New economy. I have been developing a start-up in the Consumer-to-All space, www.dotrocks.com, due to go beta Summer 2000. To pay the bills in the meantime, however, I work as a strategy consultant for Idealab, an Internet business incubator here in Southern California. On the personal side, currently I am living in sin with my girlfriend - soon to be finance when I build enough courage - in sunny/smoggy Los Angeles, and continue training for my 2nd Dan black belt in Tae Kwon Do. On occasion, I still manage to play the occasional rugby game and have been trying to get my golf handicap south of 100. I would love to touch base with some of the folks from my era or anyone else who may be in the States. Cheers - Pat Morris. (pmorris00@earthlink.net)Rachel Kiff (Roberts) KC'82-'89

I promised myself a good rest in 2000 but so far it hasn't proved possible. (rachel_kiff@yahoo.co.uk)Easter Hockey Festival Report
The Old Canterburians experienced mixed results at the Canterbury Easter Hockey Festival. Austin Whiting assembled a group of about 20 players all keen and raring to go on the Friday. The first game was against Thundercats and a disjointed performance saw us lose 4-5 in a fluctuating match. We then encountered Bandits, the eventual winners of the Plate competition. An early lead of 1-0 for us was soon wiped out, and the Bandits played some clever hockey to run out 9-1 winners. The OCs played well going forward, but the defence left a great deal to be desired. The final group match on grass saw us take a 4-0 lead against N. G. C., but defensive frailties saw an eventual 5-5 draw. We therefore finished bottom of the group. Our best hockey was reserved for the play-offs, and against Sonic Boom Boys we won 2-0, on the main astroturf in front of the large crowd. A 1-0 defeat by U.C.L. meant we finished 14th out of 16 teams. Not one of our best years, but an enjoyable time was had by all. Thanks to Austin for running the show. Players : J. Allworthy, J. Barnes, D. Butcher, H. Clarke, A. De Mello, S. Downes, I. Dupuy, R. Fell, J. Golding, A. Howard, T. Jones, J. Kim, D. Kincaid, N. Lander, A. Marron, J. Milligan, C. Porges, O. Royo, D. Scott, S. Whiting, A. Whiting.Unfortunately the ladies let down the Festival by not organising a team. I fear that they will not be invited again.
PS.
One thing I forgot to say was that the winners of the Fair Play Trophy were The Little Misses. From the reaction of the crowd I think they must have been. Alan Frost.Frank Weaver KC'63-'73
I am now back in the North West of England working as Engineering Manager of a Paper Mill. Since leaving KC I spent a year with Voluntary Overseas, teaching in Lusaka, Zambia. Came back and got a degree in Mech. Eng. then went straight back to work in the Mines for about 10 years. Left there '87 then moved on to a Gold mining Company in Venezuela for 3 years. Left there, came back to UK, not my cup of tea! 1992 went to Nigeria as Chief Engineer of a Detergent & Soaps company. Due to daughters' impending GCSEs decided that I had better come back and try and settle in April 1997.Looking through the list in the information just sent out I remember many of the names, several of the more local guys let me come away for exeats when my own parents were living overseas. I shall be ever grateful! Those remembered as close and good friends with whom I have completely lost touch are Nigel Vangucci and Mark Venning, so guys if you're on e-mail you can get in touch at Fr.Wv@aol.com.

I recently retired from the RAF after 36 years during which I flew Hercules aircraft; instructed at the RAF Staff College; and, latterly, spent 8 years working on the policy, procurement and implementation of synthetic training (mainly flight simulators). I start a new career with BAE SYSTEMS in May 2000 where, once again, I shall be dealing with the training of aircrews for multi-engined aircraft. Frankie and I have lived in Wootton Bassett for the last 24 years during which time both our children, John and Sarah, have experienced KC student-life. John subsequently spent some time as 'poacher turned gamekeeper' as an assistant housemaster for MH in between gaining a BSc in Geopgraphy at Reading and qualifying as a teacher at Sidney-Sussex College, Cambridge. Now married to Joanne (Jo), John teaches at King Edward's School in Bath - but still plays rugby for Wootton Bassett. Sarah gained her BSc at Cardiff University. I graduated from St John's College, Oxford last summer. Since September 1999 I have been wroking as a lay assistant at St Ebbe's Church in Oxford, teching the Bible to children, Oxford undergraduates and others, and telling non-Christian students about Jesus. Those who know me will be very surprised by this I'm sure, as I was utterly contemptuous of Biblical Christianity at school, but I was converted in my first year at Oxford after realising that Christianity was not what I thought it was. I cannot remember whether I mentioned that I got married here in Amsterdam to Joanneke van Zadelhoff last August. We had met on a Greek beach in '92 and we have both have been living together since I moved here in '96. The Wedding was a smashing rig-run for the guard of honour, which was provided by my old Naval Air Squadrons. I was a boarder at Kent College for the sixth form in 1987 and in 1988 (I passed the A levels in June 1989, but don't quote me on the date - I will pleasantly deny it was so long ago!) After leaving Kent College, I earned my Bsc Economics from the London School of Economics and then earned a joint MBA/MBI (I for information systems) at the Rotterdam School of Management / University of Chicago Business School. I left KC to do a degree in civil engineering at Imperial College. Got a 2:2 in 1983 and joined Wimpey. Worked on various construction & design projects in the UK for Wimpey until 1987 when I was seconded to TML to spend 6 & 1/2 years constructing the Channel Tunnel. In 1994, I left the Channel Tunnel to build Hong Kong's new airport. I remain in Hong Kong, now building a major tunnel for a large rail project. As Project Quality Manager for the JV, I deal with all QA issues as well as environment and survey management to earn my keep..
I married a fantastic Phillipino lady Lolit (my first wife!) in 1995 here in Hong Kong and we are now expecting our first children...yes.. twins in June 2000.
It would be great to hear from anyone who knew me, and to get an update on the old school. Unfortunately not too easy to visit from HK.
Regards, Jim Whorlow (whorlows@netvigator.com)

I was interested to hear that you had a web site now. I found out quite by chance from "K" Akosa (who many of you will remember)who I bumped into by chance at the Barbican station in London one evening. I qualified from Sheffield University with a 2:1 in French and Business Studies (incidentally...I was saddended to hear of Mr Bircumshaw's death...he taught me German for a while around 1981). Having then tried my hand in export, I qualified as a chartered accountant in 1995 with Ernst & Young and am now a group financial controller for an IT group near Birmingham. I am married with a 3 yr old son. Having paid my life subs many years ago, I have moved house alot and have not received a copy of the OCC magazibe for about 15 years...any chance of getting back on the mailing list.
