Inexplicably ‘Sam’ while at school,
Wilfred was born at Worthing in 1897 and died there
on March 5th 1979.
While at K.C. from 1911 – 1914 his main athletic interests were cricket and hockey while, on a more academic side, he was a keen pianist. In later years he became a county tennis player for Sussex as well as an able player of chess and bridge.
He joined the Royal Sussex Regiment in 1914 and saw service in North India. After demobilisation he left the family horticulture business to go into building.
He regularly attended O.C.’s reunions until 1977, despite failing health, and sent three sons to K.C. during the 50’s. His loyalty and support for the Old Canterburian Club, the more acceptable for his friendliness, personal charm and sense of humour, helped the school through the vicissitudes of inter-war years.
