Walton
was
born on May 17th 1911 and took a degree in French at University
College, London. He came to K.C. in 1949 after teaching at Rydal (where he met
and married Janet) and Henry VIII School at Coventry, as well as war service in
the Royal Artillery (A.A. Regiment). He died on January 11th 1965.
His contributions to K.C. included being Head of Modern Languages; Housemaster at The Manse for 10 years; magazine editor from 1952 to 1962; organiser of public examinations; careers master; quite apart from his work in the Development Campaign of 1964-65 and his assiduous collecting of Old Boys’ news.
He gained affection and respect first, of his colleagues for his integrity, conscientiousness, complete lack of pomposity and quiet but penetrating wit; second, of his pupils for his scholarship, care, interest and very genuine concern for and perspicuity in dealing with each individual according to his need.
