TARN  DEREK SEAGER  (1922 – 2004)

Derek was the son of Walter Seager (O.C.), becoming a boarding pupil when his parents were living in Coulsdon, Surrey.

He was a keen sportsman, playing hockey, his favourite team game, as well as cricket, football and tennis.  A good diver and swimmer, he was in the School swimming team.

His career was to be made in the paper industry.  His first job, after leaving K.C. in 1939, was as a junior laboratory assistant at John Dickenson and Co. Ltd, Watford.  He left to volunteer for the R.A.F. in which he remained for the duration of WW II.

On returning to civilian life he continued in the paper trade, becoming a senior representative.  This entailed moving around the country and working for several companies.  His final job was with a Scandanavian wood pulp agent.

Derek was a regular attender at O.C.C. meetings and gatherings; in his younger days he was often involved as a playing member in the sports teams.  In retirement he lived for many years in the Midlands and during this time he became actively involved with The Stroke Association.

Despite the lengthy and tiring journeys that were involved,  Derek continued to find time to support the Old Canterburian Club.  He became a committee member and served as secretary for several years.  He was Club President in 1968 / 69.  At reunions he was happy in the company of older and younger members alike, typically witnessed at the 2003 Annual Dinner which he attended despite not being in the best of health.
