JACK WALLIS

Jack came to K.C. in 1919 after service with the R.H.A. in the First World War, and there began the famous partnership with Walter Price.

Like Walter, Jack was involved in running the unseen services behind the scenes on which the school depends.  In the maintenance of the school grounds, one of the more public tasks he performed, it was he who drove the school motor-mower.  Less obvious were his care and servicing of the complicated electrical, plumping and heating systems of the school – all liable to crises at awkward times.

Outside school in the 1920s and 30s he was a cunning slow bowler and a punishing hard hitter for Harbledown C.C.  Conscientiousness and a hearty contempt for anything shoddy marked his integrity; a lively sense of humour and a flair for a well-told yarn his humanity.

On retirement in 1957 he was elected an honorary member of the Old Canterburian Club.  He died on March 18th 1965.
