HUBERT JOHN TOVEY
Hubert
gained
his M.A. at Cambridge and B.Sc.at London before his two spells at K.C. from 1922
– 33 and from 1935 – 36, where he was in charge of chemistry and biology.
His influence and popularity at school were the result of both his catholic interests and his infectious enthusiasm. He was not only absorbed by his academic scientific interests but was interested in art, architecture and music, as he showed when he went on Scout excursions to Venice and Prague. As a keen walker he took advantage of this pursuit to examine and recognise the plants, flowers, trees and birds that were on his path. The most tangible memory left of him must be the swimming pool, the excavation of which became his special delight to organise, always himself taking an active interest and strenuous part. He died on 14th November 1971.
