Alan
was
born in 1902, the son of a distinguished Methodist preacher, Rev. Dr. Dinsdale
T. Young, and came very young to K.C. in 1910. There he showed himself a
quietly strong character, respected despite his lack of interest in the then
prestigious field of games. When he left K.C. he showed his love and loyalty
for the school, becoming President of the Club in 1960 and a school Governor
from 1951 until 1966.
His special gift for administration and accountancy were seen in his election first to Chairman of the Finance Committee and then of the Council of the Malden Urban District; he was local Club President of Rotary International and, in 1959, was made a member of the Guild of Freemen of the City of London. As Chief Accountant of ENSA he landed in France soon after D-Day.
While modest and retiring, he stood firm in matters of principle which were reinforced by his obvious wide knowledge and experience expressed with wit and wisdom. He died in August 1967.
