A.  E.  ‘JIMMY’  JAMES

 

Jimmy James at Kent College for eight years between 1917 and 1925.  At school he was a very popular member of the community and participated in all the various activities.  He gained Honours in the School Certificate, with Exemption from the London Matriculation.  He was a Corporal in the Cadet Corps and was awarded 2nd XI Colours for cricket and hockey.

 

In later life he had a very successful career as a Local Government Officer, holding a Diploma in Public Administration.  He was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration.  For many years he was a regular attender at OC Reunions (having been known to travel from some distance by bicycle) and served on the Committee.  He will be remembered most for the considerable amount of work he did in redrafting the Club Rules and Constitution.  He was a good after-dinner speaker and proposed the toast of The School in 1932.

 

After his retirement he lived at Beaminster in Dorset and died on 20 September 1975.
